On Saturday, January 15, 2022, another young Nigerian, Chukwuka Monye, declared his interest in vying for the office of the presidency in 2023, with the theme “Our Future Is Now.”
He formally declared his ambition in an event organized in his home state, Delta. Though, he is relatively unknown in the Nigerian political space, here is what you should know about the 42-year-old running to succeed President Buhari.
Background
Chukwuka Monye was born on July 21, 1979. He hails from the South-South geo-political zone of Nigeria, precisely from Onicha-Ugbo, in Aniocha Local Government Area of Delta State.
Education
The Oxford-trained innovation strategist started his education in Nigeria before travelling abroad on scholarship. He attended Federal Government College, Ijanikin, Lagos State. He holds a BA in Business Administration from Warner University, Florida, in the USA. Monye also holds a postgraduate Diploma and MBA from the prestigious Oxford University.
Career
After the completion of his first degree, Monye worked at Citigroup, USA. He was also an Associate Manager for a financial institution in the USA. In 2007, he founded Ciuci Consulting, a company he recently stepped down as Managing Partner after 15 years. He is the Director-General of Delta Economic Summit Group and board member of many Nigerian Companies, such as the House of Tara.
Politics
Chukwuka Monye declared his ambition to run for the office of President on 15th, January 2022. He said: “Our future is here serves as a reminder that it is time for the youth to take charge of the affairs of the nation. I represent a generation that desires opportunities to express their innovative capacities. I represent a generation that desires justice, peace, and equity. I represent a generation that excels and has attempted to create the best we can, despite the limited empowerment we have received”. Marriage
The Delta State-born philanthropist and innovation strategist is married to Ifeoma Monye, a native of Anambra State in South-Eastern Nigeria. The union is blessed with two daughters.
