Nigerian singer and Warner Music South Africa artist, Chukwula Ekweani, popularly known as CKay, has been certified Gold in the US for his hit song, ‘Love Nwantiti.’
‘Love Nwantiti’ had earlier been certified Gold in UK and France. The track made CKay the biggest artist on Spotify in 2020 after it topped different charts across the world.
The Gold status attained by Love Nwantiti will see Ckay get a plaque which is usually given when a record or track has an equivalent of 500,000 copies either through CD sales or online streaming in the United States. Though the track has been produced in different versions and languages, the original version of the track achieved the feat in the US.
CKay, 26, was born in Kaduna State but he relocated to Lagos in 2014 to pursue his music career. He was discovered and signed into Loopy Music but he became an artist under Chocolate City after the merger of Chocolate City and Loopy Music in 2016.
He released his first EP under the label, ‘Who the Fuck Is CKay?’ in 2017, the second EP, ‘CKay the First’ in 2019 and it featured the hit track ‘Love Nwantiti’, and the third EP, ‘Boyfriend’ in 2021 under Warner Music South Africa.
‘Love Nwantiti’ became an instant hit in Nigeria after its release. Ckay featured Joeboy and Kuami Eugene in the remix which gained him global reputation. The remix went viral on TikTok in 2021 and became a worldwide hit, topping music charts in Europe, Africa, and New Zealand.
Also, the song was remixed in different languages. The French remix featured Franglish, North African remix featured ElGrande Toto, East African remix featured Rayvanny, German remix featured Frizzo, and the Spanish remix featured De La Ghetto.
