Nigerian Army Arrests Female Soldier For Accepting Proposal From A Male Corp Member

A public show of love and affection by a Nigerian female military officer towards a male corps member in Kwara State has landed her in cell. The detained officer had accepted a proposal from the corps member and further kissed him at the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Yikpata, Kwara State.

After the soldier had accepted a ring from the corps member, she hugged and kissed him passionately while on uniform. Her action did not go down well with the leadership of the Nigerian military, citing that she has violated the country’s military law by engaging in a public show of amorous relationship with a paramilitary trainee (corps member).

Following her arrest and detention, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations condemned the female officer’s actions and stated that she violated the code of conduct for military personnel in the country deployed for duty, and noted that her move amounts to taking advantage of the corps member.

Nwachukwu went further to say that there would be a public outrage and accusation of the Nigerian Army for coercion if a male military officer had proposed to a female corps member.

The statement from the Army spokesman said:

 “The female soldier in question violated the following rules of the NA:

“1. Fraternization while on official duty at the NYSC camp. That is, indulging in an amorous relationship with a trainee.

“2. A personnel must have served for three years before he/she can qualify for marriage.

“3. She disobeyed the Armed Forces of Nigeria standing guidelines and directives for the use of Social Media.

“4. Indulging in romance while in uniform.

“5. Her conduct was prejudicial to good order and military discipline.

“All the above, if proven are in violation of extant laws with attendant disciplinary and penal implications.”

The Army chieftain declined to making public the punishment for the female soldier but maintained that “the Nigerian Military like all others, has its disciplinary codes, distinct from that of the general society. Every personnel has voluntarily undertaken to be bound by this code.”
