The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari clocks a year older as he celebrates his 79th birthday anniversary.
Buhari was born in Daura, Katsina State on 17 December 1942 into a Fulani family. Coming from a polygamous home, he is the twenty-third child of his father.
Buhari started his military career when he got into the Nigerian Military Training College (NMTC). He would go on to attend other military schools including Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot, England and Army Mechanical Transport School in Borden, United Kingdom.
The president has been Nigeria’s ruler and Grand Commander of the Federal Republic of Nigeria since 2015 under the umbrella of the All Progressive Party (APC).
Despite being away from the country for a “Third Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit,” in Turkey, with his wife, Aisha Buhari and other officials, the president has received numerous congratulatory messages from other national leaders and friends.

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, through a message by his special adviser on media and publicity, Lanre Lasisi wished Buhari well on his birthday.
“Mr President, Nigeria and Nigerians are proud of you. The way you have been steering the ship of the Nigerian state has been commendable. I, therefore, join the millions of our compatriots to wish you a happy birthday and more years in good health.’’
Nigeria’s Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige was not left out as he sent congratulatory message to the Grand Commander of the Niger. Ngige described Buhari as a hero who met Nigeria at the crossroad of socio-economic challenges and has left footprints on the sand of time.
