Former Chelsea FC striker, Demba Ba, has retired from professional football. The former Teranga Lions of Senegal star, called time on his playing career at the age of 36 after ending ties with Swiss side, Lugano, in August, 2021.
Ba confirmed his retirement on Twitter, saying: “What a wonderful journey it has been. Football has given me so many beautiful emotions.”
The highlight of Ba’s career saw him win the Europa League with Chelsea in 2013, alongside his exploits in Turkish football which saw him crowned a league champion on two occasions with Besiktas (2016-17, and Istanbul Basaksehir (2019-20).
Ba made the headlines in January 2011 after moving to West Ham from German club, Hoffenheim, where he scored 40 goals in 103 appearances. A short stint at West Ham saw him score seven goals in 13 games before moving to Newcastle United, six months later.
The Senegalese footballer turned out impressive for Newcastle with 29 goals in 57 games before securing a move to Chelsea in January 2013. At Chelsea, Ba made 23 starts in 51 games, scoring 14 times.
During his time at Turkey, Ba also had a short stint in China with Shanghai Shenhua.
