Ahmed Must Exits Al Nassr

Nigerian national team captain, Ahmed Musa, has left his Saudi Arabian club, Al Nassr. Musa’s departure was confirmed by the Asian club on Sunday, October 25, 2020, and is believed to be on mutual consent between both parties. Ahmed Musa, 28, has featured twice for the Saudi Professional League side so far this season and is yet to register a goal or an assist. However, there was no indication before Sunday as to him having any reason to leave the Saudi side.

The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner has spent 2 years at the club, helping them win multiple trophies. He registered a total of 11 goals and 14 appearances in his 58 appearances for the club, guiding them to lift the 2018-2019 Saudi top-flight diadem and the 2019 Saudi Super Cup. One of his standout performances for the club was in a home game against Al Quadisiya, where he scored a spectacular hat trick, to grant his team a 3-0 over their opponents. Ahmed Musa has had a somewhat shaky career over the last few years. After signing for English side, Leicester City, in 2016 for £16 million, it seemed he had finally settled for a top club in Europe, but it all turned to naught as he failed to cement his spot in the club’s starting eleven, and soon after was struggling to even make the bench. Four goals in 33 matches during the 2016-17 for Leicester City saw him get loaned out to his former side, CSKA Moscow.

The Nigerian born forward appeared to have recovered form during his short stay in Moscow, scoring 6 goals in 10 league games, which earned him a national team call up for the 2018 World cup, where he impressed further by scoring 2 goals in 3 games. His performance at the world cup attracted numerous clubs, but Al-Nassr came on top and secured the signature of the Nigerian forward. Musa has also featured for other club sides which include Kano Pillars, where he made his senior career debut, loan spells at JUTH and VVV- Venlo.  The best moments of his career however did come at CSKA Moscow, where he scored 48 goals in 135 appearances during the entirety of his stay at the Russian club, including the short loan spell in 2018.

Ahmed Musa, who is the third most capped player for Nigeria with 93 appearances for the Super Eagles, is expected to announce his next destination in the coming days.
