Following an unsuccessful meeting with the federal government in Abuja, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has commenced an indefinite strike with immediate effect from today, April 6, 2021. The failure of the government to reach an agreement with ASUP on a new salary scheme is the major factor behind the strike.
Reacting to the development, the National President of ASUP, Anderson Ezeibe, disclosed that apart from the new salary scheme, the demand for government to pay salaries and allowances owed lecturers by some state governments is responsible for the move. Ezeibe went ahead to note that ASUP is open to dialogue with government in order to resolve the issues.
