Spanish football heavyweights, Real Madrid, are set to be without their captain, Sergio Ramos, for six to seven weeks after a successful knee surgery. Ramos was last seen in action during Madrid’s Supercopa de Espana semi-final defeat to Athletic Club on January 14, 2021. Despite featuring for all 90 minutes, the Spanish national team captain has struggled for fitness ever since.
With this development, he is set to miss Madrid’s vital clashes against Atlanta in the second round of the UEFA Champions League and Atletico Madrid in the Spanish league. The Spanish La Liga champions will travel to Bergamo, Italy for their first-leg clash against Atlanta on February 24, 2021, and welcome the Italians for the return-leg on March 16 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Zinedine Zidane’s side are 10 points behind league leaders, Atletico Madrid and will aim towards reducing the deficit without their star man at the Wanda Metropolitano on March 7.
However, Ramos will be back in time for their El-classico clash against Barcelona on April 11.
