Iran has not replied to the accusations, but a Trump presidency is expected to further severe ties between the US and Iran.
The Justice Department of the United States has accused Iran of plotting to kill President-elect Donald Trump and other US citizens.
“The charges announced today expose Iran’s continued brazen attempts to target U.S. citizens, including President-elect Donald Trump,” the Director of FBI Christopher Wray said.
Further investigation by the FBI revealed that a 51-year-old Iranian with Afghan citizenship said he had been instructed by Iran to assassinate Trump a few weeks before the US presidential election.

Recall that a few weeks ago, Trump’s campaign said they had been informed by the US Secret Service about a concrete threat from the Asian country to assassinate the former US President.
Charges against the 51-year-old Iranian man have been filed by the US judiciary, and two other men accused of planning to assassinate a dissident of Iran were also charged.
“There are few actors in the world that pose as grave a threat to the national security of the United States as Iran,” Attorney General Merrick Garland warned.
“We will not stand for the Iranian regime’s attempts to endanger the American people and America’s national security.”
During Trump’s first term as President of the United States, he withdrew from a nuclear agreement with Iran, imposed new sanctions on the country, and classified Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps as a terrorist organization.
In 2020, Trump ordered a US military drone strike in Baghdad, Iraq, that killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani.
Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025.
