The Lakurawa penetrated Northwest Nigeria after military cooperation between Nigeria and Nigeria failed.
At least 15 people have been killed by new terrorist organization Lakurawa in the Meri community of Kebbi State.
The casualties were recorded during a fierce battle between residents of the community and members of the terrorist group on Friday, November 8, 2024.
A local source told reporters that the violent confrontation began after residents of the community resisted the group, which attempted to rustle livestock from Mera.
“A herder ran to the community and raised the alarm,” the source said.
“Local residents responded and engaged the terrorists in a fight, which led to the deaths of 15 people, with many others injured.”

Some of the terrorists were reportedly killed by the locals, and several others were injured, but they were carried away by their surviving members, who retreated from the community.
The deputy governor of Kebbi State, alongside the commissioner of police and the Emir of Argungu, have visited the community to offer condolences.
Military authorities have confirmed the existence of the Lakurawa group, which is reportedly linked to global terrorist organization ISIS and has been operating in the Sahel.
The Defence headquarters says the group was able to penetrate the Northwest region of Nigeria after military cooperation between Nigeria and Niger meant to safeguard the region plummeted following the military coup in the country.
Nigeria and Niger have severed ties since the military coup that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum from power in 2023.
