President Tinubu believes his economic policies will yield positives in the long run.
President Bola Tinubu has said he is not thinking about the presidential election in 2027 but is rather focused on alleviating the suffering of Nigerians.
Tinubu was represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, at the ruling All Progressive Congress party’s South-West Assembly on Saturday, October 5, 2024, where he also expressed belief that Nigerians will “thank” his administration for economic policies that have brought untold economic hardship on the people currently.
“We acknowledge that our decisions have been tough, but they needed to be taken,” Tinubu said.
“The gains are at the end of the tunnel. That time will come when we will all be happy and thank our government for taking those decisions.
“Right now, I am not thinking of the next election but about the next generation.
“This is why we are implementing reforms that are long overdue. This is the hallmark of a true leader.”
Nigeria’s already poor economy was worsened during the swearing-in ceremony of President Tinubu in 2023, where he announced that the regime of fuel subsidies was over.

Since his inauguration speech, Nigeria’s inflation has hit an alarming high, and the government has been unable to control it.
Other economic moves, such as the devaluation of the naira, have further worsened the economic situation of the country, as the exchange rate to the dollar has more than tripled since Tinubu assumed office.
Critics believe the government is not doing enough to solve Nigeria’s problems, as moves such as the acquisition of a new private jet for the president, a multibillion-naira new residence for the country’s vice president, and other extravagant spending mean the government has failed to cut administrative costs.
