President Kagame blamed the DRC’s President Tshisekedi for the conflict in the eastern part of the country and warned that Rwanda will do everything to protect itself.
President Paul Kagame of Rwanda has warned the Democratic Republic of the Congo of his country’s readiness to go to war against them if necessary.
In an interview with France 24, Kagame made strong statements while reacting to the comments made by President Felix Tshisekedi of DR Congo, who threatened war against Rwanda and accused Kagame of sponsoring genocide in the eastern part of DR Congo.
“We are ready to fight… We are not afraid of anything,” the Rwanda’s President warned.
He also accused Tshisekedi of influencing the return of a “genocide ideology” against Congolese Tutsis in eastern DR Congo.
“What actually is taking place in eastern Congo should be understood even by the person who leads that country,” Kagame said.
“He does seem to have a selective memory of what to call what is happening there.
“To ignore that and to want to call it something else, somewhere else, by somebody, I think you have to be missing something in your mind.”
Despite accusations from Western powers that there is the presence of the Rwandan army in Congo, President Kagame declined to confirm that and advised the world to “look at the root cause of this problem” when commenting on the presence of the M23 in the eastern part of DR Congo.

With no strong opposition, Kagame is likely to return to office for a fourth term after the presidential election on July 15, 2024.
When he was quizzed about the accusations by a group of media outlets that he is leading a campaign of oppression and assassination against strong opposition within and outside Rwanda, Kagame discredited the allegations and said electoral processes in the East African nation have followed due course.
