Sunak made the announcement during a rain-soaked speech outside Downing Street.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced July 4, 2024, as the election date.
In a speech made outside Downing Street, Sunak discussed the COVID-19 pandemic, the furlough scheme, and the Russia vs. Ukraine war.
Sunak went on to ask, “Who do you trust?”
The Prime Minister expressed pride in the achievements of his government, including spending on the NHS and education.
While Sunak made the announcement in a rain-soaked Downing Street speech, the 1997 “Things Can Only Get Better” Labour election anthem was heard from a nearby street.

Keir Starmer, the leader of Labour, described the election as the “moment the country’s been waiting for.”
Starmer further said that with “patience and determination,” there is “so much pride and potential to unlock” in the United Kingdom.
Liberal Democrats have reacted to the announcement by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Liberal leader Sir Ed Davey says the election presents a “chance to kick Rishi Sunak’s appalling Conservative government out of office and deliver the change the public is crying out for.”
“The NHS has been brought to its knees, people’s mortgages and rents have soared by hundreds of pounds a month, and water companies have got away with pumping filthy sewage into our rivers and beaches.
“All because this Conservative government is more interested in fighting between themselves than standing up for the needs of the country.”
King Charles III appointed Rishi Sunak as Prime Minister on October 25, 2022.
He is the first British Asian and the first Hindu to hold the position.
