President Tinubu has vowed not to reverse the energy reforms of his government.
President Bola Tinubu has banned members of the Federal Executive Council from purchasing vehicles that are dependent on petrol.
The president’s special adviser on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, said the directive was part of efforts to implement the use of compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered vehicles in the country.
Ngelale said President Tinubu’s resolve to effectively utilize Nigeria’s gas potential and ease the burden of the cost of transportation on citizens while also improving the standard of living was the motivation behind the announcement on Monday.
“The President’s directive is also in furtherance of Nigeria’s effort to transition to cleaner energy as CNG-enabled vehicles have been adjudged to produce lower emissions, even as they present a more affordable alternative for Nigerian energy consumers,” Ngelale’s statement said.
President Tinubu also mandated every government ministry, department, and agency to purchase CNG-powered vehicles and set an example for citizens.

Tinubu further stated that energy reforms under his administration will not be reversed, noting that Nigeria “will not progress forward if we continue to dance on the same spot.”
The removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu meant that fuel prices skyrocketed and brought about inflation, which the government has been unable to control for close to one year in power.
Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration is making policies in their best interest, but the harsh economic realities have seen his popularity wane.
