Eiza González lamented the categorization of Latin American actors as “sexy.”
Actress Eiza González has revealed that being considered “too hot” made her loose many roles in Hollywood.
The Mexican thespian told InStyle that she suffered an identity crisis and considered making drastic alterations to her looks in order to get a job in the competitive American film industry.
“I remember being told for so many projects, ‘She’s too pretty for the role. She’s too hot for the role,’” she revealed.
“Then I’d just be like, ‘What is Margot Robbie? She’s the hottest, most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen in my life.’
“I had an identity crisis for a very long time. I was like, ‘Do I shave my head? Do I make myself less attractive? Do I make myself more attractive? Do I not dress super-hot, or do I dress super-hot, or do I cover myself all the time?’”
Often times, the 34-year-old actor is described as “sexy,” partly due to her role in movies like “From Dusk Till Dawn” or “Baby Driver,” but she strongly rejects being tagged “sexy” because “it’s an overly sexualized idea of a Latin woman. It’s so disappointing, and it’s so pathetic.”

Despite her resentment for being called “sexy,” she says it “has been single-handedly the biggest challenge of my career. None of my white friends who were in the industry were getting that. It was just me.”
However, being considered “too hot” came as a surprise for the South American actress because she got the opposite treatment during her time as a young actor and singer in Mexico.
The media in Mexico labelled her as not pretty enough, especially as she suffered from eating disorders during adolescence. She described those years as the most terrifying of her life.
“I went through a lot of trouble with my body, with my curves, with my look. It was really tough,” the “3 Body Problem” star disclosed.
She revealed that she beat through those tough moments because the “moment that I was acting, the moment that I was singing, and the moment that I was on that stage, I was more alive than ever.”
“I’m living all the feelings I want to live. I’m ridden with fear, but I welcome the fear. It’s the only time in my life that the fear feels friendly.”
Jokingly, the superstar actor said that she has lived many lives already and looks at the glass as half full.
“Every time that something tragic happens to me, I never complain about it. Because every single time that something really tragic has happened, something amazing has happened right afterwards,” González said.
