Reports from the AFP news agency say a new resolution for “urgent and sustainable cessation of hostilities” drafted by the United Arab Emirates is set for vote today. The UAE resolution draft also calls for the immediate and unconditional release of hostages and makes strong calls for a two-state solution.
It will be recalled that the United States, through its veto power, blocked a UN Security Council resolution seeking a “humanitarian ceasefire.
Since Hamas broke through the heavily guarded Israeli security perimeter, killed 1,200, and took 240 hostages (some of whom were released during a temporary truce) on October 7, 2023, Israel has replied with unending airstrikes that have claimed thousands of Palestinian lives.
