Ronaldo joins the Saudi league side after over 20 years in Europe.
Following his move to Saudi Professional League side, Al Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo has stated that his work in Europe is done and expressed his eagerness to start life in Asia.
The Portuguese national team captain made this disclosure on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 during his official unveiling as a player of Al Nassr.
Accompanied by club president, Musalli Al-Muammar, the former Manchester United star dressed in a stylish grey suit walked through the stadium’s halls. Ronaldo was welcomed by 25,000 fans at the Mrsool Park despite the club charging 15 Saudi Riyals ($4) for tickets. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to charity.
Quizzed about his new adventure with the Saudi giants, Ronaldo said:
“So far I’m feeling really good, I’m so proud to make this big decision in my life, in football. In Europe my work is done, I won everything, I played in the most important clubs in Europe and for me now is a new challenge for me in Asia. I’m glad Al Nassr gave me this opportunity to show and develop not only for football but for football but also for the young generation, the women’s team and for me it’s a challenge and in the same way I feel very happy and proud.”
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also revealed that he had numerous offers from Europe, Brazil, Australia, US and his native, Portugal, but chose to join the Asian side. Ronaldo further expressed his desire to play on Thursday, December 5, against Al-Ta’ee if his new manager, Rudi Garcia, permits him.
He said:
“It’s not easy to win any games today. The evolution of football is different and this isn’t the end of my career by moving to the Middle East. For me, I’m really happy to be here and I know the league is competitive. I’ve watched many games. I hope to play after tomorrow if the coach gives me the chance.”
The former Real Madrid forward also noted that he wants to beat records in Asia like he did in Europe.
“I want to beat a few records here and it’s a good chance to move here. I’ve done it in Europe so it’s normal.”
