Beyonce is the most successful female artist in the history of the award.
Global music act, Beyonce, made history after bagging nine nominations in the 2023 edition of the Grammy Awards, equaling her husband, Jay Z’s record of artist with most Grammy nomination of 88.
Beyonce’s nine awards nominations saw her lead this year’s list of nominated artist as the “Irreplaceable’’ crooner gears up for a showdown with Adele, Kendrick Lamar, Harry Styles, and other top acts.
Kendrick Lamar who got eight nominations trails Beyonce in the list of nominations, while Adele and high profile singer-songwriter, Carlile, got seven nominations each.
Beyonce’s “Renaissance’’ album will compete against Adele’s “30,’’ Harry Styles’ “Harry House,’’ Lizzo’s “Special,’’ Kendrick Lamar’s “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers,’’ and entries from Mary J. Blige, Coldplay, Brandi Carlie, Bad Bunny, and ABBA, for the album of the year prize.
It will be recalled that Adele beat Beyonce to the album of the year prize in 2017, but said she felt Beyonce’s “Lemonade,’’ album should have won the award. Despite being the female artist with most Grammy wins (28), Beyonce has never won the album of the year award.
