Paul Scholes believes the Nigerian was lucky in goal on Thursday night.
Former football star, Paul Scholes, has written off the performance of Super Eagles of Nigeria goal keeper, Francis Uzoho, in Manchester United’s 1-0 narrow Europa League win over Omonia Nicosia on Thursday, October 13, 2022.
Uzoho made the headlines on Thursday night after making an incredible 11 saves despite coming off the bench to replace injured first choice goalkeeper, Fabiano, and made the night frustrating for United until a late strike from Scott McTominay sealed the win. The Nigerian shot-stopper earned the plaudits of many including Cristiano Ronaldo, but not Paul Scholes.
Scholes believes the Nigerian goalkeeper was lucky, insisting that he made regular saves except on one occasion. The former Manchester United midfielder also blamed poor finishing for the Red Devils’ failure to score.
“I actually do feel sorry for (Uzoho) a bit. Let’s have it right, it was the right result. (United were) so dominant in both games really. Sloppiness in front of goal though, United have saved themselves some embarrassment there. The keeper didn’t make any saves you wouldn’t expect him to make. United’s finishing wasn’t quite there…The goalkeeper was good. I don’t think he made saves that were unbelievable. I think it was a mixture of poor finishing as well. He was lucky. He saved almost everything. He was great, don’t get me wrong, but he saved everything he should have saved.”
Paul Scholes
Scholes have come under heavy criticism from fans who believe the 23-year-old deserves more appraisal than criticism.
