Peter Obi commands strong support more than every other presidential candidate on social media.
Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar, has ruled out the chances of Labour Party’s Peter Obi winning the 2023 presidential election. Atiku opined that Peter Obi’s campaign team has focused more on social media which will not help the former Anambra State governor because “90%’’ of Northerners are not on social media.
The former vice president of Nigeria made his views known during an interview with Arise TV on Friday, July 22, 2022. Atiku also noted that Labour Party does not have the capability of dividing votes meant for the PDP as suggested by some analysts, and questioned the performance of the party in the recently concluded gubernatorial election in Osun State which was won by the PDP.
Atiku also believes Labour Party lacks structures like governors and members of state and national assemblies which can help them win the election.
“I really don’t expect the Labour Party to take as many votes from the PDP as people are suggesting. We could have seen it in the last election in Osun state. What is the performance of the Labour Party?,’’ Atiku questioned.
“This is a party that doesn’t have a governor, doesn’t have members of the national assembly, doesn’t have state assembly members, and politics in this country depends on the structures you have at the various levels — at the local government level, at the state level, and at the national level.”
The PDP candidate believes “it is very difficult to expect a miracle to happen, simply because Peter Obi is in the Labour Party. After all, they were saying through social media, they had more than one million votes in Osun state. But how many votes turned for the Labour Party? And then again, mark you, you’re talking about social media. In the north, 90 percent of our people are not tuned to social media.”
It will be recalled that Peter Obi was Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election.
