Tyson was subject of numerous controversies during his career.
Legendary boxer Mike Tyson has disclosed that he spent the best three years of his life in prison. The American boxer was imprisoned in 1992 after a Miss Black America beauty pageant contestant, Desiree Washington, accused him of rape.
Despite denying the allegation, Tyson was sentenced to 10 years jail-term of six years in prison at the Indiana Youth Center and four years on probation. The boxer’s good behavior would see him released in 1995 after spending only 3 years behind bars.
Contrary to the thought of many that Tyson’s three years in jail was the worst of his life owing to the fact that he was at the top of his career, the retired boxer thinks otherwise, noting that he earned respect from fellow inmates after late rapper Tupac Shakur visited him in prison.
“They respected (Tupac), soon as he came in the room, they started applauding,’’ Tyson disclosed.
Smoking a marijuana cigarette in a new interview with ‘The Pivot Podcast,’ Mike Tyson who looked relaxed said:
“I had the best three years of my life in prison…I had peace. That money doesn’t mean anything if you don’t have your peace, your stability and your balance. You need your sanity to dictate any part of life.
“I had good food, everybody was nice to me, they treated me well.
“I would run around the yard 8 or 9 miles and in the evenings I would jump for four hours, in my cell. Everybody treated me good in jail, they were afraid of me, but I was always a good person.’’
Mike Tyson went on to become world champion after his release from jail.
