The high profile Nollywood star has over two million followers on Instagram.
Popular Nigerian actor, Jim Iyke, has revealed the reason why he does not follow anybody on Instagram. Iyke, who is also referred to as the ‘Bad Boy’ of the Nigerian movie industry revealed this in a recent interview with, Temisan Emmanuel, of the Tea with Tay podcast. The thespian said social media is a ‘pseudo-reality’ and as such should be taken seriously.
According to him, he made up his mind not to follow anybody the day he signed up on the platform. “From day one I got on social media, I didn’t want to follow anybody. I wanted to establish the fact that this is a marketplace. It’s a pseudo-reality there. It’s not what people want to take as their everyday life,” he said.
Speaking further, the popular actor said “If you see any of my posts, it’s tailored. I don’t post about my family. I don’t post my pleasures. There are certain things I think should be left for one to experience alone. There are three tiers of life that I live. I live the private life, the public life, and the secret life. Social media is public life. If I want to make a statement in style, if I want to make a statement on my ideology and principles, if I want to market something, or if I want to set a new understanding of my opinion of something, that is where I should be.”
Iyke also stated that he doesn’t post his children on social media because he does not want to attract unnecessary attention to them. In his words: “I have kids that run the mall at every part of the world and no one will say I know that face.”
Though Jim Iyke has 2.4 million followers on Instagram, he does not follow any account.
