Saskay is presently one of the most sought-after models in Nigeria.
Former Big Brother Naija reality TV show housemate, Tsakute Jonah, popularly known as Saskay, has revealed that she was ridiculed because of the colour of her skin.
Saskay revealed her previous encounter with people during an interview with Fashion Bomb Daily Magazine for which she featured as a model.
“I was called blackie and laughed at for being black-Saskay,’’ the article read.
The ‘Shine Ya Eye’ ex-housemate recounted her ordeals while growing as a child. Saskay said she hated herself and battled low self-esteem because of her skin colour as people around her never stopped haunting her about it.
“Growing up, I didn’t exactly love my skin, because people kept talking about it like it was a disease or something,” Saskay said.
“I was called names like ‘blackie’ and laughed at for being so ‘black.’ I felt so dirty, like maybe being dark was a result of me not being clean.”
Speaking further, the reality star disclosed that she made frantic efforts to work on her skin, but all her efforts ended in futility as people never stopped commenting on how black she looked when they met her.
“So I put in extra effort into my cleanliness, still nothing. I had five sisters who were all lighter complexion and it made me even question myself more,’’ she disclosed.
“The first thing everyone noticed about me, was obviously my skin, but never in a good way. It always goes something like, “wow! you’re black oh.”
However, Saskay has risen above criticisms and public haunts to become a top sought model after being a housemate in Big Brother Naija, bagging several endorsement deals and cash gifts.
Recall that the 21-year-old model who hails from Adamawa in Northern Nigeria was evicted alongside Yousef in the BBNaija Season 6 edition. She is now an artist, model, cosmetics guru and entrepreneur.
