The terror group attacked the military institute on Monday and killed at least two persons.
Terror group, Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) has released a video online, showing its fighters attack the Research Institute of the Nigeria Army University, known as Tukur Yusufu Buratai Institute for War and Peace (TBI), on Monday, January 10, 2022 in Buratai Village, Biu Local Government Area, Borno State.
The Nigerian Army institute is located in the hometown of Nigeria’s former Chief of Army Staff and current Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, retired Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai. ISWAP’s fighters were seen rampaging and firing recklessly in different directions in the Institute, with no form of resistance from the available soldiers in the Institution. The fighters took down flags and manhandled some military vehicles in the institute.
According to Daily Trust, a source revealed that most “residents have fled to Moringa, another town in Biu. The ISWAP came in large numbers shooting RPGs and anti-aircraft guns.”
While reacting to the incident, the management of the Tukur Yusufu Buratai Institute for War and Peace (TBI), Biu stated that the community is now calm but two civilian staff of the Institution lost their lives in the attack.
“The terrorists who came in their numbers were met by superior firepower forcing them to retreat in disarray. Unfortunately, 2 civilian staff of the Institute paid the supreme price,” the statement said.
The management also commiserated with the family of the deceased and commended the efforts of their gallant forces in repelling the attack.
According to the statement: “Management wishes to commend troops for their gallantry during the attack and to commiserate with families of the fallen staff. Finally, management wishes to assure the general public that the Institute remains 100% operational as Security has been beefed up in the general area.’’
