Bayelsa-based nightclub ‘Voltage,’ situated in the state’s capital city ‘Yenagoa’ has threatened to sue Mavin Records and its artist Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe popularly known as Ayra Starr to court over an alleged breach of contract regarding a performance at the club’s first year anniversary after-party, billed to hold at its premises.
It was reported that the nightclub had offered an advance payment of three million naira to Mavin Records just before the event to seal the deal, so the artist can perform at the event. Surprisingly, few hours before the event, the performance was called off over an undisclosed excuse.
The management of the club expressed their utmost displeasure to the abrupt contract breach. According to the management, this incidence was occurring for a second time between both brands.
In a statement issued by the Chief Executive Officer of the Option Lounge and owners of the Voltage Night Club, Tonwerigha Oyintonbra Tombrown, the latest development was made public:
“This is to inform the general public that the planned 1 (One)year anniversary of Option Lounge which was billed to hold today, 5th January 2022 and the after-party which was to hold at club voltage where Ayra Starr, a Mavin Records artist was to perform has been shifted forward to another date that will be communicated soon.
“This is due to the persistent disappointment and complete breach of contract for the second time from Ayra Starr and Mavin Records. We do not understand why Ayra Starr and Mavin Records after agreeing on a fee that we paid in full have consistently disregarded her fans here in Bayelsa. We have consulted our legal team and we are taking all legal mercenaries against her and Mavin Records.
“As a business, we hold our esteem customers very high and we cannot disappoint them for the second time; hence the need for this publication. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that this may have caused you for the second time. Please accept our apologies”.
Ayra Starr hit the spotlight in 2021 after her first single ‘Away’ was released. She would go on to establish her presence in the Nigerian music space after the release of another hit track ‘Bloody Samaritan.’
