The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said that it is probing 1,000 corps members for attempting redeployment and posting.
This was disclosed on Wednesday, June 23, by the Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, while addressing reporters in Abuja, after declaring the 2020 inspectors development programme open.
He mentioned that the accounts of some corps members in the 2021 Batch A, Streams 1 and 2, have been suspended, following their attempts to redeploy from the original states they were posted to, to other states.
While some of the affected corps members have said they redeployed on the grounds of security issues in the Northern states, others feigned critical health conditions.
Reports show that not only were their accounts suspended, the payment of their monthly allowances have also be put on hold.
The DG said that while investigations are still ongoing, those found guilty will be subjected to disciplinary actions.
He said: “There are 1,000 corps members nationwide we believe were involved in unethical practices. So, we cancelled their deployment. We are still investigating it. So, anybody involved will be disciplined accordingly.”
